Thumbnails load straight from YouTube's public image servers.
Thumbnails belong to the video owner. Use them for preview or reference, or ask the owner before reusing them.
Sizes you get
Most videos carry a maximum resolution thumbnail of 1280×720, plus standard, high and medium quality versions and the small default one. If a video was uploaded without a large thumbnail, the bigger sizes may not exist — that is a YouTube setting, not a fault in this tool.
What this tool does not do
It only reads the public image files that YouTube already serves for every video. It cannot fetch the video itself, audio, subtitles or captions, and it does not remove watermarks or bypass any protection.

What this viewer does
Paste a YouTube link or video ID and this tool lists the thumbnail images YouTube stores for that video, so you can preview and download them in the sizes that actually exist.
Thumbnail sizes YouTube keeps
- maxresdefault — 1280 x 720, the full-size cover. Only exists for videos uploaded in high resolution.
- sddefault — 640 x 480.
- hqdefault — 480 x 360. Always available.
- mqdefault — 320 x 180.
- default — 120 x 90, the small grid image.
How to use it
- Copy the video link from the YouTube app or your browser.
- Paste it into the box. Watch links, youtu.be share links, Shorts links and embed links all contain the same video ID, and the tool reads the ID out of the URL for you.
- Preview the sizes that were found and download the one you need.
Example
In a link such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID the ID is the part after v=. The same ID appears in a Shorts or embed link, so you never have to rewrite the URL by hand.
Limitations
- If the uploader never set a large custom thumbnail, maxresdefault does not exist and the largest available size is shown instead.
- The tool can only fetch what YouTube publishes publicly; it cannot create a missing image.
- Thumbnails belong to their owners. Downloading one does not give you the right to reuse it.
- Very new, private or deleted videos may return nothing.
Frequently asked questions
Is the downloaded image the same one viewers see?
For most videos yes — maxresdefault is the cover shown on the watch page. When it is missing, the next largest size is used.
Can I reuse a downloaded thumbnail?
No. Use it as a reference only. Reusing someone else's cover can lead to a copyright claim.
Do I need to sign in?
No. Public thumbnail images are fetched directly from YouTube.
