🔒 Your photo is processed inside your browser — it is never sent to a server. The AI model (~7 MB) downloads on first use, so the first run takes a little longer; after that it is fast. Large photos are scaled down automatically.

How this background remover works

Your browser loads a small AI model that reads every pixel and decides whether it belongs to the subject or to the background. Pixels that belong to the subject are kept as they are, and the rest get their alpha channel cleared.

1. Choose a photo — a picture with one clear subject gives the best result.
2. Choose a background: transparent, white, or your own colour.
3. Press Remove background and watch the status line. The model downloads on the first use.
4. If you are happy with the result, press Download PNG.

Why the photo never leaves your device

Many background remover websites upload your photo to their servers, where it stays for some time. That does not happen here: a JavaScript AI model runs inside your browser and the file never leaves your device.

Tips for the best cut-out

• Choose a photo with one subject — edges come out poor on crowded photos.
• Even, bright lighting works best; avoid hard shadows and backlight.
• When the subject and the background have clearly different colours, the result is cleaner.
• Hair and thin edges can look slightly rough — try again with a different photo if that happens.
• On a phone, a file over 10 MB is slow; a smaller photo runs faster and just as well.

Limits, honestly

This is a free tool that runs in the browser. Processing can take a while on mobile or on a low-memory device, and not every photo comes out the same.If the cut-out looks inverted, tick the Invert mask checkbox once.

Why is the first photo slow?

The browser downloads the AI model (around 25 MB) the first time. It is cached afterwards, so later photos are much faster.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes, in Chrome and Safari on Android and iPhone. Older phones can be slow, so keep photos under about 10 MB.

Which photos work best?

One clear subject, even lighting and a background that differs from the subject. Busy photos need retouching.

What do I get at the end?

A PNG with a transparent background, or with a white or custom colour background.

Credits & licenses

The AI runs in your browser through Transformers.js (Apache-2.0) and ONNX Runtime Web (MIT). The segmentation models used are Xenova/modnet and onnx-community/ISNet-ONNX — openly licensed matting models (Apache-2.0 for MODNet, AGPL-3.0 for ISNet). Each model carries its own licence on its repository; we use them as-is and credit them by name here.
